Baby Cakes

The little guy below is quickly approaching 15 months. It is crazy. This year has been the fastest year of my life, and I am wondering if time speeds up with each baby.  I can't get enough of this fuzzy blond haired, chubby legged, blue eyed boy. He is still not walking and shows no interest in it. He just likes to be held. Yesterday I was putting together some furniture and was sitting on the ground. He crawled up to me, sat on my lap, and snuggled his head into me and fell asleep! It was wonderful
One of my favorite things he does is 'talk'. He babbles all the time, and none of us can recognize a single word that comes out of his mouth. He does, however, make an amazing howling noise every time he sees the cat (which cracks us up).
He has already figured out that if James takes a toy from his hand, all he has to do is scream bloody murder, and somebody will retrieve it for him. He is starting to realize this tactic also works when you just want something that James has. He is a smart cookie.
Despite liking to be held, he is mr. independent. This kid is happy as a clam crawling around the house, up and down the stairs, all by himself. He loves to explore and do his own thing (for LONG periods of time). This is definitely a character trait of a 3rd child.
Well, I just wanted to share a few of his recent photos:
Picking (well, mostly eating) raspberries.

I turned 29...again

I cried 3 times on my birthday. They were all tears of happiness, nevertheless, it was an emotional day. When you are a kid, birthdays are all about gifts, friends, cake, parties, and maybe a pinata. Things are different when you are an adult. Dear family and friends (some of whom you don't talk to often) call and text you randomly throughout the day (my sister even called me twice). They ask about your day, your life, and tell you how much they love and miss you.
I cried on the phone with my sister-in-law while we were talking about her new baby (this may not have been birthday related. Something about newborns gets me choked up). I then cried, actually bawled, when an old college roommate randomly sent me a large bouquet of my favorite flowers. I was so incredibly touched. The third time was when my mom started sending me texts filled with pictures of me as a baby and sweet messages about how she loves me.
Bryson flew in the door that night after a crazy day of surgeries. He had dinner, cards, and a gift in his hands. What a great guy. A very wonderful friend offered to watch my boys so we could go out, but after Bryson's long day and the craziness of getting the kids to bed late, we opted to stay home and rest.
Like I said, I was touched and emotional pretty much the whole day. Friends and family are the best. Really, what else is there in this life? And what more could you want on your 31st, I mean 29th birthday?

Blowing out my candle with Daniel and James.

And I had to post another one with baby cakes in the back. He made this face when Bryson said "cheese".

Eating this poor kid's cheeks.

My scrumptious b-day dessert.
And I love these cards. They never get old.

afternoon at the zoo

Rochester is a pretty great place to live. The city is very family friendly, and all our favorite places are easy to get to, including our local zoo. Since it is possibly our last year here, we decided to get a membership. I have loved taking the kids, and the kids love going. It is a win win situation.

This past trip to the zoo, we met up with some of our favorite friends:

I think Andrew has a crush on Eliza. I mean, what's not to like about this little beauty? He lights up when he sees her - every single time they are together.

James trying to have some brotherly bonding time on the slide again. Poor Andrew.

Two very good buddies.

Ethan is so cute. He asked me to take this photo, and I am so glad I did because he looks adorable.

Look at these faces!

Fascinated by the tiger.

This kid never tired of the seals swimming by. He made this face every time.

Digging for 'dinosaur bones'.

This baboon obviously really liked James.

And no good zoo trip is complete without super hero ice cream bars.

birthdays

Bryson turned 33 today and we were so lucky that we got to spend the whole day with him on his special day. Bryson loves Lake Ontario, so we headed up there to let the kids run around on the sand and eat lunch.

These two crack me up. They must have run 5 miles up and down the beach today chasing after the sea gulls.

Daniel packed his fins just in case he decided to go swimming.

The boys played on the playground, and then we had a picnic lunch.

And of course after yesterday, they wanted to play lacrosse again.
Tonight we had dinner and Bryson's favorite, Angel food cake.

We have continued the Richards' tradition of going around the table and telling the birthday girl/boy what we love about them. We all love Bryson for many reasons, but the boys and I all said what a great father and husband he is. We are so blessed to have him!
Happy birthday Bryson.

And speaking of birthdays, Bryson's sister Shannon had her baby last Thursday (the 13th). They named their beautiful baby girl Amy Marie. We are so happy for Shannon, Kevin, Jordan, and Nathan and cannot wait to meet this baby in a few weeks!!! Congrats Taylor family. And we love you baby Amy.
